The web site for Alan Morris's book 'A Practical Guide to Reliable Finite Element Modelling

Alan Morris' first degree was from Manchester University where he obtained a 1st class honours degree in Mechanical Engineering. This was followed by an MS degree from Colorado University in the USA which gave him both a love of research and mountain hiking. After Colorado there followed 3 years involved with the design of large steam turbine blades operating at supersonic speeds with wet steam at AEI Engineering. He moved to Cambridge University in 1966 and obtained a Ph.D. working under Chris Calladine in structural analysis. In 1969 he left Cambridge and spent a year in Belgium at the University of Liege working with Professor fraeijis de Veubeke; one of the great pioneers of the Finite Element Method. Liege was followed by 12 years at the Royal Aircraft Establishment; one of the most successful and internationally best know aeronautical research centres world-wide. From 1982 until he retired as an Emeritus Professor he was employed by Cranfield University. During his research work he has made significant contributions in the fields of finite element analysis and Structural Optimisation.
